More than half a million children now risk ‘severe malnutrition’ in Yemen
16 October 2015 – Yemen’s spiralling crisis has caused “alarming malnutrition levels” among children because of the limited availability of and lack of access to food due to blocked or damaged delivery routes and restrictions on food and fuel imports caused by the conflict, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned today. Before U.S. forces bombed twice the Kunduz Hospital in Afghanistan, the Taliban shot down a US C-130 plane. Prior to striking the Abu Graib Infant Formula Production Plant in Iraq, Saddam Hussein attacked Israel with Scud missiles and paraded captured allied airmen on Iraqi TV. Ahead of U.S. forces targeting Amiriyah’s Air Raid Shelter in Iraq which was solely used to protect civilians, there were more U.S. casualties and Iran’s offer to mediate a cease fire. Synod Terce Prayer: Appeal for peace in the Middle East and Africa
Vatican City, 9 October 2015 (VIS). The Pope exhorted bishops to dedicate the Terce prayer “to the intention of reconciliation and peace in the Middle East”, as he opened the fourth General Congregation of the 14th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Vatican City this morning. The Pope also launched an appeal to the international community to find a way of resolving current conflicts, and finally urged the bishops to include in their prayer all those zones in Africa that are experiencing similar situations of conflict.
